Our team at Zuma Nutrition has formulated two products specifically for improving skin health and hydration. In this article, we want to share a bit about the benefits of these products and how they work together to create a synergistic healing effect.
The first product is our Biodynamic Face & Body Mist, which is a wonderfully potent & aromatic blend of four hydrosols including California Poppy, Rosemary, Lavender, & Rose Geranium. These hydrosols are uniquely artisan distilled in small batches to maintain the optimum essence, fragrance, and vibration of each plant, creating a soothing face & body mist that helps to rejuvenate, tone, balance and hydrate your skin.
The second product is our Antioxidant Night Cream. This product is an emollient made of organic Aloe Vera juice infused with several different natural oils, vitamins, and plant extracts. Emollients are non-cosmetic moisturizers that have the ability to infuse the dermis. The natural extracts and essential oils in this cream make it a restorative face moisturizer that provides anti-aging properties. This cream will rejuvenate your skin, neutralize free radicals, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
These products have wonderful healing properties on their own, but work much more effectively when used together. The Biodynamic Face & Body Mist contains plant hydrosols that help to open the pores of the skin, which allows the Antioxidant Night Cream to penetrate even deeper into the dermis than it does when used alone.
A pore is an opening—a small hole—in the surface skin. It is so small that it’s actually indiscernible to the naked eye, but even so, it is large enough to secrete liquid. Pores feature in every single millimeter of our skin and we house millions of them, as do all other mammals. The term “pore” itself can be confusing because our skin actually has two kinds of pores that serve very different functions:
- Hair follicles housing oil (sebaceous) glands. Their purpose is to lubricate the skin. These are on the skin all over the body except for on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. When these pores get blocked—which is extremely common—many different kinds of conditions from acne to pilaris keratosis (A condition that causes rough patches and small, acne-like bumps on the skin) can result, depending on the location and pre-existing conditions.
- Sweat pores serving as the ducts for sweat glands. Their purpose is to cool the body. These are everywhere but more concentrated under the arms, in the groin and on the hands and feet. It is extremely rare for these to become blocked but if they do it’s usually in the armpits.
The epidermis, or outer layer of the skin, is made up of cells called keratinocytes, which form a very strong intracellular skeleton made up of a protein called keratin. Keratin is actually water resistant, but becomes less so under long exposure to high pH, or in the presence of moisturizers, emollients and surfactants. Thus, moisturizers help to open layers of the hair follicles, allowing water to penetrate.
This is why combining both the Biodynamic Face & Body Mist and the Antioxidant Night Cream is so beneficial for skin health, as the mist helps in moisturizing and opening the pores, allowing the emollient cream to penetrate even deeper into the dermis than it would on its own.
Because of their ability to open the pores of the skin, the hydrosols in our Biodynamic Face & Body Mist also work synergistically with our Biodynamic Turmeric Formula (when applied topically) and DMAE Cream. The Biodynamic Turmeric Formula contains natural compounds called curcuminoids, which are known to have powerful anti-inflammatory effects and are also very strong antioxidants, helping to fight chronic inflammation in the body. Our DMAE Cream protects the body against UVA rays, while also forming a protective layer on the skin helping it to heal and rebuild, while also helping to dissolve old sun damage or lipofuscin (freckling).
At Zuma Nutrition, we are passionate about health, and even more passionate about educating you on how you can achieve optimal levels of health in the body so that you can be the healthiest and happiest version of yourself. The skin is the largest organ in the body, and the one that is in most direct contact with our external environment. Therefore, the health of our skin is very important. While topical applications are very nourishing to the skin, healthy skin also depends on what we ingest internally. This is why we are dedicated to educating and offering ways to heal within and without, for a healthy body and mind leads to a happy and joyous life.
