What is Zeolite? All the Health Benefits

What is Zeolite? All the Health Benefits

Zeolite is a natural volcanic mineral found in deposits throughout the western half of the United States. One of the unique things about this mineral is that it possesses a natural negative charge, allowing it to bind to positively charged metals and toxins.

This makes zeolite an incredible tool for removing toxins from the body. Zeolite also consists of an open, three-dimensional cage-like structure with a vast network of open channels. These channels flowing throughout each granule make zeolite a capable absorbent. This three-dimensional honeycomb structure, coupled with the negative charge, allows zeolite to both absorb liquids and adsorb elements based on the strength of the chemical bond. Absorption is “the process or action by which one thing absorbs or is absorbed by another”, while adsorption is “the process by which a solid holds molecules of a gas or liquid or solute as a thin film.

Once loosely bound, positively charged atoms (like heavy metal particles) travel through a channel, they become bound to the negatively charged honeycomb structure. This makes zeolite act like an actual cage, trapping in toxins and helping them to be effectively removed from the body.

The framework of Zeolite is composed of aluminum, silicon, and oxygen, plus countercations. This framework provides extraordinary strength and stability to zeolite’s honeycomb structure. It also makes it very difficult for the positively charged atoms to leach from Zeolite.

How Can You Benefit from Using Zeolite?

We are constantly exposed to toxins that negatively affect our health. Air pollution, water pollution, food contamination, chemicals in beauty and hygiene products, toxic cleaning agents, and other environmental toxins can wreak havoc on our health, especially if they build up over time.

When toxins accumulate in the body, they create what is known as a toxic load. Every single one of us has a toxic load, but every one of us also has a different toxic load based on the amount of toxins we are exposed to, the amount of toxins that are stored in our bodies, and the amount of toxins that we remove through the process of detoxification.

Accumulated toxins are detrimental to our health and underlie many illnesses. The goal of detoxification is to remove these toxins from the body to lighten our toxic load and to improve our body’s health in the process.

There are many ways to detoxify the body. The body already has several organs and systems dedicated to detoxification. The liver, for example, is the body’s primary detox organ. It is responsible for neutralizing the toxins that enter our blood so we don’t become ill. However, even the liver can be overburdened with toxins and can function less efficiently as a result.

The kidneys, lungs, lymphatic system, gut, and skin all help us to clear toxins. As incredible as these systems are, however, they too can allow toxins to slip past their defenses. When this happens, they are often stored in the fat cells of our body, and can be difficult to remove.

This is where zeolite comes in. Zeolite is unlike any other type of detoxifying agent. Because of its cage-like honeycomb structure and its rare negative charge, it can attracts positively charged toxins and heavy metals and traps them in its framework. There really isn’t any other compound like it, and it is one of the most effective compounds for deep cleansing and detoxification.

What Toxins Does Zeolite Bind To?

Zeolite has a strong negative charge and is therefore attracted to all positively charged molecules. This is very good news for us, because most of the things that don't belong in our bodies are positively charged particles. This makes zeolite an effective detox method for a variety of toxic elements that we may be exposed to and that may negatively impact our health, such as:

Heavy Metals

Heavy metals are toxic metals that can come from a variety of sources. Lead, cadmium, and arsenic are just a few examples of toxic heavy metals that can negatively affect us. These metals accumulate in our bodies over time and can put an immense burden on our immune systems and our nervous systems. This causes our bodies to work overtime to try to stay healthy, and eventually, our bodies lose the ability to keep up with this excess demand and symptoms such as chronic fatigue, brain fog, irritability, and a whole host of other symptoms and conditions can manifest. Zeolite can effectively target these hidden metals and trap them in its cage-like structure to be safely removed. Once you detox the heavy metals from your system, your body can once again function at its peak performance.

Environmental Toxins

We are exposed to more environmental toxins today than ever before in our history as human beings. The air you breathe, the food you eat, the products you use, materials in your house—all can contain harmful toxins. These toxins accumulate over time and lead to negative health symptoms like weakened immunity, fatigue, brain fog and much more. Most of these toxins have a positive charge, and so most of them can also be trapped in zeolites negatively charged cage-like structure for safe removal from the body.

Radioactive Materials

If you are exposed to ionizing radiation, radioactive materials will be left in your body and will stick around for years if you don't take action to remove them. These radioactive materials can come from many sources—X-Rays, fMRIs, CT scans, Mammograms, medical radiation procedures, naturally occurring radiation like radon. It is likely that you have some radioactive materials still present in your body from one of these sources. Zeolite is a great tool to help you remove this leftover radiation in the body.

Mold

Mold toxicity is a very common and often underdiagnosed health issue. As researchers learn more about the damaging effects of mold, they are finding that mold toxicity underlies a surprising number of health conditions. We can be exposed to toxic mold at home, at work, in our food, and a number of other sources. This mold can then multiply in your body and spread over time. Some mold spores can even linger for years after a single exposure to toxic mold. Zeolite is incredibly effective at removing mold and can help out tremendously in a mold detox protocol.

Microbial Pathogens

Zeolite can also bind to a variety of microbial pathogens including Candida, viruses and parasites. Due to its ability to absorb viral particles, zeolite has antiviral properties of its own, and research on zeolite has shown that it may be effective against a whole host of viruses.

How Zeolite Can Support Your Immune System

Our immune system is a complex network of cells and proteins that defends the body against infection. It recognizes the cells that make up your body, and will try to get rid of anything unfamiliar, destroying germs (bacteria and viruses) and parasites, and working constantly to protect your body’s health. The immune system is what protects your body from harmful invaders like chemicals, bacteria, viruses, and parasites and helps you stay healthy.

When your immune system is focused on fighting toxins, it inhibits its ability to do other important functions like protect you from pathogens and repair your DNA. Zeolite can help boost your immune health because it can help remove the toxic elements that are compromising immune function. Zeolite can absorb toxic elements and remove them from your body, freeing your immune system to focus its energy on other important issues.

Comparing Zeolite to Other Binders

There are a number of great natural binders, such as activated charcoal and bentonite clay. These binders can also be very helpful in a detox protocol, but they don't have the same binding capacity that a high-quality zeolite clay does. Zeolite has a stronger negative charge than bentonite clay or activated charcoal, which allows it to better pull toxic elements through the cell membrane, trapping them into its cage-like structure. Because of this, zeolite is incomparable in its effectiveness as a binder.

Does the Particle Size of Zeolite Matter?

The particle size of zeolite determines its function. The smaller the particle size, the faster absorption will occur alongside exponentially increased surface area. Larger molecule sizes are useful for water clean-up projects or water filters, as they allow for water to flow at higher rates. In terms of using zeolite for cellular detoxification, however, the smaller the size the mre effective it will be. A larger zeolite particle may act as a binder in the gut, but it won't be effective at traveling through the blood and trapping metals and toxins like a nano-sized zeolite particle will. A nano-sized zeolite particle offers a more effective whole-body detox.

Zuma Nutrition’s Nano-Zeolite Formula

We are happy to announce that we will soon be launching a nano-zeolite formula. This formula has been in the works for a while and will be one of our most essential tools for detoxification. This formula can enhance the effectiveness of other detox products, as it acts as a powerful binder, helping to pull out and effectively remove toxins from the system.

Is Zeolite Safe?

Yes. As long as you have a high-quality zeolite formula. There are hundreds of types of zeolite, and not all of them are the same. A good thing to know too is zeolite does not get broken down or absorbed by the body. It simply passes through your blood stream collecting positively charged toxic elements and is then excreted. Because of this, you cannot actually overdose or poison yourself on zeolite.
