Lowering your toxic load at home usually comes down to small, steady swaps: what you burn, what you wash with, and what goes on your clothes and skin. This collection gathers our non toxic home products in one place, with the details on each label spelled out plainly.

We started with personal care, because shampoo and body wash touch your skin every day. From there it was a short step to laundry, since detergent residue sits against your skin all day in your clothes and sheets. Candles came next. Many conventional candles are made with paraffin, a petroleum byproduct, and scented with fragrance blends that are rarely disclosed in full. We wanted candles that set a mood without the guesswork, so we chose a soy wax blend and list every essential oil by name.

How to choose

Clean candles: each candle uses an all-natural soy wax blend for a slow, even burn, lead-free flat braided cotton wicks, and fragrance oils free of phthalates and California Prop 65 banned ingredients. They are also paraben-free, gluten-free and certified cruelty-free. Choose by scent:

How to use them

Trim candle wicks to about a quarter inch before each burn and let the first burn melt the wax across the full surface to keep it even. Keep candles away from drafts, never leave one burning unattended, and stop when about half an inch of wax remains. For laundry, soap nut detergent produces little foam; that is normal and does not affect cleaning. Because the formula is biodegradable, it is also a good fit if you care about what goes down the drain and into local waterways.
