Matcha is a type of finely ground, high-quality green tea that has been consumed in Japan for centuries. Before harvest, tea bushes are covered for several weeks, which increases their levels of amino acids, antioxidants, and chlorophyll, giving matcha a vibrant green color.
The leaves are then harvested, steamed, dried, and ground into a fine powder using traditional granite stone mills. This process ensures that the tea retains its natural nutrients and antioxidants.
Matcha is a rich source of antioxidants called catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which has been shown to have numerous health benefits, including reducing inflammation, improving heart health, and protecting against cellular damage.† Because of the way it is processed, matcha contains significantly higher levels of antioxidants and nutrients than ordinary green tea.
