People ask why we don't chase the newest compounds. Our answer: we'd rather build on plants with generations of traditional use behind them. Whole plants carry naturally balanced ratios of compounds that work together, wisdom refined over lifetimes, not product cycles.

Two founders who answer for every formula.
Richard Helfrich
Richard has spent more than three decades studying how plants and nutrients support the body. He doesn't talk in generalities. He talks about specific cells, tissues and molecular pathways.
Starting in the 1990s, he built a private health practice on retainer, designing custom protocols around each client's lab work for a clientele that included public figures and professional athletes around the world. He spent two decades in clinical practice alongside master herbalists, and still works with them on our formulas today.
He's the author of four books: The 24 Hour Body, Young Inside and Out, Immune Response and Take Care of Your Health. Richard has always preferred to stay behind the curtain. Zuma Nutrition is the first time his formulas have been available to everyone.
Jordan Dorn
Jordan grew up on the '90s diet: cereal, Oreos, whatever was on the shelf at Costco. He was an athlete, so on the outside he looked fine. On the inside, his gut was a mess from the time he was a little kid, and he struggled with his mood right alongside it.
Nutrition and training got him fitter, but he still felt puffy and inflamed. Then he met Richard, who over decades had developed 176 formulas for the people he worked with and had never put a brand on a single one.
Jordan remembers thinking: this has to reach more people. He had no idea what it took to build a real brand. He just knew these formulas deserved to be out in the world.
It started with a cup of coffee.
We were introduced by a friend. Richard was living in Venice, California, and Jordan was a hungry student who wanted to understand how the body really works. So he asked Richard to get coffee. Then he asked again. And again.
Over those coffees, Richard taught functional health at a level Jordan had never heard before: the different tissues inside each organ, how molecules move through the body, how cells regenerate, and why precursor nutrients matter.
Neither of us planned to build a company. After about two years of learning together, we decided to bring Richard's formulas to the world. That was nearly a decade ago, and we've been building Zuma Nutrition side by side ever since.

We partner with regenerative and biodynamic farms for many of our ingredients, and our essential oils and hydrosols come from a Demeter-certified biodynamic farm.

Our tinctures use a dual extraction process developed by Richard, combining alcohol and water to capture both fat-soluble and water-soluble plant compounds.
